Hey iPad Productivity readers, I am going to show you an easy way to help you make sense of iPadOS 27’s new “Swipe Down” gestures. This will help you instantly understand the placement of these new gestures in iPadOS 27, with a simple and easy Pro-Tip to remembering them.

Some Context

When I installed the iPadOS 27 Beta, the first most noticeable learning curve that I realized I needed to get use to, was the new placement of the “swipe down” gestures. I kept making the same mistake when trying access Control Center, Notifications & Spotlight Search. I kept accidentally triggering one of these three, but often not the one I actually wanted!

To make things a bit more complicated, in iPadOS 27, Apple have moved Notifications Center altogether!

The reason I (and others) found it difficult to understand this in Beta 1 of iPadOs 27, was that the locations to specifically invoke Control Center, Notifications and Spotlight Search were in very tight, specific locations and because of the dead space between them, it was easy to miss the trigger points.

Thankfully Apple fixed this in the latest Beta, by giving users a much larger target area to swipe down from. But there is still a learning curve as to how and where to do this. To make things a bit more complicated, in iPadOS 27, Apple have moved Notifications Center altogether!

So what and where are the new trigger “zones / panes” to swipe down from, and where is Notifications Center now?
