One of life’s greatest problems in this digital age, is managing all the random bits of information we receive and interact with on a daily basis. Since our iPhones and iPads are often our most accessible and portable devices, these are likely the computers that will be most convenient to reach for in the moment. Unfortunately dealing with tasks that require finding and placing multiple attachments or collating several bits of information, can take longer on our most personal devices.

For example, at home on the couch you might suddenly remember you forgot to send your teacher, boss or team a link to a presentation that was due, but you also needed to include several other pieces of information along with it, maybe a URL to a web page, an annotated screenshot image, a PDF and word or excel doc too. You know you can access these files right from your iPhone and it would be great if you could just get it done now, so you dont have to worry about it later. You then quickly realize collating multiple different files is becoming more tricky than you thought.

Another example is perhaps you have a few minutes to yourself on the weekend and you decide to finish applying for that insurance policy or to complete the purchase process for that new car or finish the lease for the new apartment you are looking at. You now need to send a scan of your ID, a pdf of a utility bill, your latest bank statement and a few completed forms. Finding and navigating to a central place, from different folder locations to collect this information on ones phone, can be time consuming and frustrating.

The obvious conclusion we all come to when we attempt something like this is, “I will do this later when I have access to my PC or Mac”. The reason we do this is because those devices have a desktop and we have our own personal systems for working with and managing multiple files on them, so we default to our desktops because it’s just easier.

Yoink is the solution!

Yoink makes managing digital stuff so much easier because the app serves as an ultra simple, yet versatile “shelf / place holder”, where you can just drop files, documents, images etc , like you would on a desktop but without creating clutter.

Yoink allows you to drag & drop, copy, paste and download virtually any type of file in one place. It could be amazons links, websites urls, PowerPoint presentations, text snippets, emails, pdf’s, newsletters, images etc.

One of the features with Yoink that we love, is that it allows you to create “stacks” of information that you may want to grab together in one go to make drag and drop easier. 

At iPadProductivity.com Mike and I use Yoink all the time in our professional and personal lives. One recent example of where Yoink worked for me was over Christmas. Christmas these days involves so much comparison work it can be exhausting. Yoink helps tremendously with this because you can make “stacks” of collections for, in my case, Christmas present options for my kids. I stored multiple URL’s and pictures from different stores to compare with my wife for later in these “Stacks”. The beauty with Yoink in my use case, is that it’s not just URL’s which can be stored but pictures, screens shots and more in one place and there is no system clutter being created!

In our professional lives Mike and I love being able to quickly drop files and docs into Yoink via the share sheet. Yoink actually sits 1st in our list of apps in the share sheet because of how often we use it for work! Also being able to quickly access Yoink in Slideover is a feature that can really helps us fly when we are in the zone.

Yoink can also conveniently be accessed through the Files app under “Locations”. This makes handling items in Yoink feel easy and in a work application, it feels professional.

We also appreciate the seamlessness of syncing between devices via Yoinks iCloud sync, a must have feature for a productivity app you are considering.
