Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported Sunday the 13th of April, that Apple is reportedly working on a major overhaul of iPadOS. This comes as many users have complained for years that the operating system has not received the updates it clearly needs.

In his newsletter “Power On” , Gurman wrote “The company prepares an iPadOS overhaul to make the tablet more like a Mac”

Now we usually don’t write about news or runours, however such a big productivity scoop from Long time reporter Mark Gurman deserves a mention, this really is very exciting!

So let me give you 6 reasons why we think this headline makes all the sense in the world:

  • iPad Airs and iPad Pro’s have hardware capability that is comparable to MacBook Air’s and MacBook Pro’s.
  • The M4 iPad Pro with Magic Keboard costs more than a MacBook Pro.
  • For over 5 years iPad users have complained about Apples productivity apps for iPad lacking key features despite the above.
  • Apple’s competitors; Microsoft Surface, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Chromebooks and others, offer more full featured OS’s similar to their desktop siblings.
  • The last major overhaul to iPadOS was the release of stage manager 3 years ago!
  • iPad sales have been in a state of decline for the past three years. Apple may be waking up to the fact that this may be in large part because due to the perceived perception of iPadOS and less about the cost of the iPad itself, as Apple has shown customers will spend the premium if they can justify the cost.

Time will tell as all will be revealed at WWDC scheduled for the 9th June 2025.

That’s all for now and enjoy your week ahead.

Cheers,

Matt
